A List Of Things NOT To Do On Your Website
OK AOL kiddies and other high school webmasters… today’s lesson in Webmastering 101 class is a list of things NOT to do on your website.
Everything on this list is obvious yet I see it happen all the time. Most of what’s on this list, everyone already knows, however people STILL feel it absolutely necessary to do. This is simply a list of things you should not do on a website. Period.
Splash pages. If I have to choose high or low bandwidth before entering your website you’ve failed. This is 2007. There is no need for splash pages anymore… personally I don’t think there ever was. From an SEO standpoint having a splash page can be very hurtful towards your rankings. Search engine spiders will index your splash page instead of your home page and usually a splash page consist of flash or some other form of media such as a picture. The only actual text content on a traditional splash page is the “skip intro” link. Users with dial up or even slow broadband will become frustrated after waiting for your page to load up only to find its a splash page and no actual content is on there. You want to make it easy as possible for users to navigate your website, and you want them to do as little work as possible. Having them wait for a splash page and then click “continue” goes against this principle.

One Subaru Impreza Door, Please.
Well its been a little over a month since my impreza got hit and its about time it got fixed. After being busy and getting several estimates I finally managed to get the car repaired and have the other lady’s insurance pay for it. The body shop repaired the front fender and door, and replaced the molding on the front door. The entire shell of the rear door along with the window molding was also replaced. Luckily it was enough to cover the damages and then some. I also got the dent out of the front fender taken care of as well as repainted. The paint looks awesome. Midnight pearl blue has returned!
Wordpress Whoa, More Like Woe.
Just sitting there trying to tweak this theme to be valid XHTML and CSS and messing around with some plug-in, all of a sudden something just goes wrong and wordpress (version 2.2) breaks and several features wont work… (Cue dramatic music) I’m sitting here thinking what could possibly be the problem? So I start undoing and backtracking to figure out what could have gone wrong. Nothing is making sense.
Dallas – Adam’s Mark Hotel (part 2)
Later that night on the way back from eating… we park the car and head into the hotel, but of course the floor numbers on the elevator don’t make any sense. We end up on some random floor and open the door to hell. Well at least for our noses. I swear the stairwell smelled like someone or some people took a leak on carpet, walls, rails, and everywhere… I was choking and almost threw up which some people found to be hilarious. because throw up is just that funny. Especially when you add back spasms to it
Also this hotel is a giant waste of space. Huge open areas that have nothing in then but the crappiest artwork ever. Stuff you’d see in a flee market gallery. I’ve seen the same artwork multiple times in different location… buy one get one free?
Our rooms have four lamps and no overhead lights or fans. And we’ve got the best view too… its a wall, more like the side of the building. Its awesome.
